Schools and organisations often want to offer boxing because it is engaging, in high demand, culturally relevant and capable of reaching people who may not connect with conventional exercise.

Finding the right provider can be difficult.

Traditional amateur boxing clubs provide genuine boxing knowledge, but their culture and delivery may be built around competition, sparring and the development of fighters. At the opposite end, boxercise is accessible but may provide little genuine boxing progression.

Union Jab occupies the middle ground.

We teach real boxing while removing the requirement to spar, compete or travel. Participants receive a structured introduction to the sport from coaches who also understand the professional, safeguarding and communication standards expected by reputable organisations.

We do not water boxing down. We remove unnecessary barriers, excel in professional delivery and develop the person alongside their boxing ability.

All Boxing Together

Participants do not need a diagnosis, referral or identified support need. The programme is equally suitable for mainstream groups that simply want high-quality boxing delivered in a professional, welcoming and non-competitive format.

The exact content is adapted to the age, experience and needs of each group, but every programme follows a planned progression. Skills are introduced clearly, practised repeatedly and applied through increasingly engaging partner and padwork activities.

This flow reflects Union Jab’s established session structure: preparation, warm-up, progressive shadow boxing, coached partner work and an outcome-led class progression.

Every session has a clear purpose

Step one: Arrival and check-in

The coach speaks with organisation staff, identifies any relevant changes or support needs and prepares the space and equipment.

Step two: Boxing-specific warm-up

Participants are physically prepared for the session while learning expectations around attention, effort and following instruction.

Step three: Shadow boxing and technical preparation

The session’s main skill is introduced without equipment or partner pressure. Coaches can assess behaviour traits, understanding, and provide individual correction.

Step four: Partner and padwork practice

Participants apply the skill through structured rounds, regular partner changes and progressive coaching tasks.

Step five: Physical finish and review

The session concludes with a manageable fitness challenge and a brief review of what participants learned and achieved.

What your organisation needs to know

Programme length

Standard offer: 10 weekly sessions

Longer, shorter or repeated programmes can be discussed where appropriate.

Session duration

Each coached session lasts 45 minutes. Please allow approximately 60 minutes from arrival and equipment setup to departure.

Group size

We deliver small-group programmes for up to 12 participants and larger-group programmes for up to 30. Groups of more than 12 require additional supervision from the organisation.

Venue

Programmes are normally delivered at your school or organisation. A clear indoor hall, studio or suitable activity space is required. We can accomodate groups <12 at our venue in Greenside if needed.

Equipment

Programmes are usually delivered at your school or organisation in a clear indoor hall, studio or suitable activity space. Groups of up to 12 may also be accommodated at our Greenside venue.

Clothing

Participants should wear comfortable clothing and suitable indoor footwear. No specialist boxing clothing is required.

Organisation staff

A member of the organisation’s staff must remain available during sessions where required by the organisation’s safeguarding or participant-support arrangements.

We currently deliver across Newcastle, Gateshead, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland and County Durham.

Programmes are quoted according to group size, location, programme length and whether the organisation is booking one or several courses. Repeat and multi-programme bookings may receive a reduced rate.

We combine genuine boxing knowledge with a structured, approachable coaching environment designed for people who may never otherwise enter a traditional boxing gym.

Our coaches are selected not only for their boxing ability, but for their professionalism, patience, dependability and ability to work effectively with different groups. Is this real boxing or boxercise?

Union Jab teaches genuine boxing technique, movement, combinations, defence, padwork and tactical principles. The difference is that participants are not required to spar or compete.

Will participants hit one another?

No sparring or contact work is required. Participants work through controlled technical exercises, shadow boxing and padwork.

Do participants need previous experience?

No. Programmes are designed to provide a clear starting point for complete beginners while allowing more experienced participants to progress.

Do participants need to be physically fit?

No. Exercises and intensity can be adjusted according to the ability and experience of the group.

Can you work with autistic or ADHD participants?

Yes. Union Jab has substantial experience coaching neurodivergent children and adults. We adapt communication and activities where appropriate while continuing to provide genuine boxing instruction and meaningful expectations.

Is this only a SEND programme?

No. The programme is suitable for mainstream and specialist groups. Its structured and approachable format benefits a wide range of participants.

Do you provide the equipment?

Yes, we can provide all equipment for every session.

What space do we need?

A suitable indoor hall, studio or clear activity space is normally sufficient. We discuss the venue and group size before confirming delivery.

How much does the programme cost?

Programmes are quoted according to location, session duration, group requirements and the number of groups involved.

Can you help us obtain funding?

Where an appropriate funding opportunity exists, Union Jab may be able to develop an application around a clearly identified group and programme. Funding is never guaranteed and should be planned well in advance.
