Feel free to message on WhatsApp if you need any training ideas or mini-workouts for these evenings!
I am aware that the MEMCLASS code is still ineffective. This is a widespread internal technical error from our webhost and we have been assured it will be resolved asap. Please simply message when you are coming along to class and your booking will be added manually on our end.
]]>- Core, Stretch and Breath is now called (P)Rehab and will have a larger focus on sport-specific recovery, core stability, prehabilitation and rehabilitation exercises, and joint strength. It will be at the same time and is there to aid people both with existing injuries and preventing future injuries.
- Rise Tribe at Blaydon will move to Greenside as of the 8th of April, meaning both Rise Tribe classes will take place in our main hall at 6.30am. This is due to insufficient demand in Blaydon. The 1st of April class will be the last at Blaydon.
- Body and Soul Boutique Boxing Classes will be starting slightly early at 4.45pm this coming Saturday, our last class, and will no longer be on the timetable thereafter. Again, this is due to insufficient demand. This was expected as the initial booking of the space was placed on a basis of testing-the-water for 6 weeks and on this occasion it has not proven to be a viable location/time for our members to access every week. We wish to thank all the team at the studio for hosting our classes and hope to do something together there again in future!
- Wylam Fight Camp will not be running on the 19th of April due to a booking conflict at the hall.
- Exciting announcements coming soon! We have a couple of projects going on in the background (a couple of members will be aware already) and look forward to releasing our announcement posts! Keep your eyes on the socials for updates!
I look forward to seeing everyone in and as always I'm always here to answer any questions!
Best,
Charlie
]]>Having boxed for 13+ years, it's safe to say I've been through my fair share of equipment and mistakes. Union Jab even used to have it's own range of gear, some of which has made a come-back.
We now have some hand-wraps, gumshields and skipping ropes for sale which you can either purchase on the site or in class.
Hand-wraps: Essential. Hand wraps are for holding the intricate structure of your hand together underneath your boxing gloves and become more and more necessary as punch power continues to increase. We have both adult and junior sizes and I recommend them highly to be worn. Purchase here.
Skipping ropes: One of my favourite pieces of kit and one of the best ways to boost cardio in a hurry. We do have some for use in classes but I always recommend having your own to use at home when you need to blast out a quick workout, plus you can adjust the length and get accustomed to your own set. Purchase here.
Gumshield: Although we don't do full-contact sparring, I always throw in my gumshield when there's any risk of clanging my teeth together just in case. Also, for those wanting to push their fitness or ever get into a ring, the way they change your breathing can be of massive benefit to both. Worth having in your training bag, and as people get more skilled there will be some drills which will require wearing one. Purchase here.
Drop me a message or chat to me in class if you have any questions!
Best,
Charlie
Union Jab was recently lucky enough to be awarded some very competitive funding from the START UP team at Newcastle University in partnership with Santander (read more about it here) and when asked what we needed the funding for, the answer was simply 'leaflets'.
Our classes started with just 2 body weight classes with no equipment and £0 in the bank at an outdoor venue in May 2021 (thank you Iain Robinson of Route 72), and as of March 2022 we currently have 15 classes on our timetable, teach boxing in multiple schools, have a full case of 121 clients working on their diet and fitness, we've had classes in 6 locations, and our main venue at Greenside not only has our full-time office for nutrition consultations and support, but is fully stocked for all types of workouts for large groups of exercisers in the main hall!
This has all come from the support of our members, so it is with gritted teeth I honestly ask for your support. Our Facebook account was unfortunately the victim of fraud which, despite the money lost, has resulted in our posts not being shared out and we are unable to run ads to promote the classes while the case is still being investigated.
This means our ability to grow is very limited, so we are relying on good old fashioned means to promote the classes which, of course, includes simple leaflet drops. Many of our members offered to drop some around their estates, at their work, at groups their kids go to, or at other community venues - and I am honestly quite overwhelmed with this generosity.
I hate asking favours and feel odd putting out this post, but the willingness of parents with kids in our Youth Boxing classes to go for a family walk dropping off and posting flyers demonstrated a genuine want to help provide more of these classes for more of our local community wanting an accessible way to get into fitness.
For this reason, there will be a box of flyers with a note left out in the back of classes near the main door. If anyone would like to take some that they would like to deliver I can only give my heart-felt thanks. It's only with your support that these classes can continue, and in return I offer all the support I can give to help you, your friends, your loved ones, your family, and our community to get into fitness and care for your health for life.
Thank you all again and I'll see you in class soon!
Best,
Charlie
]]>To those attending our boxing classes at Body and Soul Boutique Fitness at Vallum Farm, I am sorry to say that these classes will no longer be going ahead after April 2nd.
This is good news in the long run, as there is another opportunity on the horizon which requires this Saturday to be free which will bring more benefit to more people wanting to get their boxing training, but it comes at the cost of our classes at Vallum.
I want to thank Jo, Debbie and Laura for their hospitality and brilliant service as we've used the space for classes, and I implore many more to try their Yoga, Pilates, or fresh fruit scones and coffee at Cafe Aroma!
See everyone in for classes soon regardless.
Best,
Charlie
